Opened in 1897, the famous 'Shika no Yu' is a sodium-chloride spring that continues to flow against the backdrop of seasonal mountain views and mountain streams. With various settings such as hotter 42–43°C baths and lukewarm tubs, it is designed to relax the body from the core through the bath. It proposes alternating baths with the sauna/cold plunge as a way to 'finish,' creating an ideal thermal bathing environment for body transition.
Sauna & Cold Bath Information
Shika no Mushi (Stadium Style)
A stadium-style sauna room with four tiers, equipped with an 'iki stove' containing over 600kg of stones, performing automatic löyly every 20 minutes. Steam descends from above on the upper seating, creating an overwhelming sense of heat and visibility. The design leads directly to the deep cold plunge bath filled with the headwaters of the Toyohira River, strongly intending to create a rhythm of totonou.
Shika no Mushi (Circle Style)
Luxuriously using domestically-produced hinoki wood on the walls and ceiling, the circular structure allows steam to spread all around. With automatic löyly every 20 minutes and large stones, it offers intense heat and high humidity. Suitable for those who want to sweat quietly or prioritize aroma and texture.
Shibire Mizu
The headwaters of the Toyohira River flow into a deep hinoki-constructed bath. With a depth of about 120cm, it allows you to submerge up to your shoulders, providing an instant cooling effect that tightens the body. You can also pour cold water over your head right after the sauna, achieving an extremely strong contrast of heat and cold known as 'kinkin finish.'
Iyashi Mizu
Also featuring a flowing headwaters design. By alternating with the deep bath, you can adjust the cooling intensity, choosing between 'thorough cooling' and 'light cooling.' Convenient for sauna beginners or users who prefer longer alternating baths.
