A rare onsen inside a station building, with two differently themed baths inspired by a clear stream and sake barrels

Ehime Matsuno Town

Mori no Kuni Poppo Onsen is a rare onsen facility directly connected to JR Matsumaru Station in Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture. It has two baths with different atmospheres: Nametoko no Yu, inspired by the rocky cliffs of Nametoko Gorge, and Meiji no Yu, modeled after sake barrels. The two baths alternate by gender daily. Both bathing areas feature a sauna, a cold plunge bath using cold spring water, and an open-air resting area where you can feel the surrounding forest. There is also a free footbath in front of the station, making it an ideal healing spot during your travels.

The cold plunge bath is located just outside the sauna. The water temperature is around 16°C to 18°C. Like the onsen baths, it uses alkaline cold spring water, which gives a slightly slippery, smooth feel to the skin and is very gentle and pleasant. After the cold plunge bath, you can move to the outdoor area and enjoy a fresh-air rest on benches or deck chairs surrounded by trees and greenery.
