YudokoroYunohana

Japan's finest carbonated spring, natural free-flowing Nagayu Onsen

Oita Taketa City

Yudokoro Yunohana is a day-use bathing facility attached to the ryokan Kajikaan in Nagayu Onsen, Naoiri, Taketa City, Oita Prefecture. It offers the magnesium-sodium-calcium bicarbonate spring that has been called Japan’s finest carbonated spring, delivered as a completely natural free-flowing source with no water added, no reheating, no recirculation, and no disinfection. Using a bottom-fill, bottom-drain method that preserves the spring’s components, visitors can experience the fresh water as it emerges from the source. Both the men’s and women’s baths include a sauna and a cold plunge bath, and after cooling down you can enjoy a relaxed totonou (state of perfect relaxation) in the famed hot spring. The facility is a full-scale onsen inn with bedrock baths, private family baths, overnight accommodations, and a restaurant.

The source is called Kajika no Yu. It is a magnesium-sodium-calcium bicarbonate spring (bicarbonate-rich, earth-alkaline spring) with a source temperature of about 46°C and a natural flow of 250 liters per minute. The water is supplied as a pure free-flowing spring with no water added, no reheating, no recirculation, and no disinfection. The bottom-fill, bottom-drain method prevents loss of bicarbonate components and oxidation of iron, allowing you to enjoy the freshly gushing water. The white mineral flakes that float on the surface are evidence of the spring’s abundant minerals. This famed hot spring is known to promote blood circulation and is said to be effective for neuralgia and digestive ailments.

In winter, the outdoor bath, which can have a reduced flow and lower temperature, is sometimes recommended as an alternative to the sauna’s cold plunge bath, a charming practice characteristic of hot spring resorts.
