About Biwako Ryokusuitei

"Biwako Ryokusuitei" is a resort-style hot spring ryokan nestled on the shores of Lake Biwa in Ogoto Onsen, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. The large baths draw water from Ogoto Onsen, a hot spring cherished for 1200 years as a source of beautiful skin, for both men and women. In the outdoor area, a full-scale barrel sauna made with Scandinavian timber offers views of Lake Biwa from inside the sauna room, along with self-löyly using premium hojicha and a cold plunge bath. The facility is filled with soothing touches for all five senses, from the foot bath in the mirror-like courtyard to the library where free drinks are served after bathing.

Ogoto Onsen

Ogoto Onsen is a famous hot spring with a history of 1200 years. Its source has a highly alkaline pH of over 9, giving it a smooth, soft feel that blends beautifully with the skin. When you bathe, it gently envelops the skin and helps loosen daily fatigue and stiffness from deep within. In addition to the beautiful outdoor large baths, the property also offers a photogenic foot bath in the courtyard and rooms with private open-air baths, where you can enjoy the famous spring whenever you like, 24 hours a day, on your terrace.

A full-scale barrel sauna made with Scandinavian timber, newly installed in the open-air bath area. Its rounded shape helps the heat and steam from löyly circulate effectively. Self-löyly is available, and you can enjoy comfortable sweating with the rich aroma of hojicha and other fragrances. Free rentals of sauna hats and mats are also available. From the sauna room windows, you can take in a sweeping panorama of the sparkling beauty of Lake Biwa and enjoy a luxurious moment.

A cold plunge bath in a pot-bath style, prepared right next to the barrel sauna, with a pleasantly cool temperature. It gently embraces a body warmed to the limit in the sauna and provides a refreshing cooldown. Its appeal lies in the excellent flow through the outdoor area, allowing you to complete the cycle from sauna to cold plunge bath to outdoor air bath, and enjoy the ultimate totonou experience while feeling the gentle lake breeze flowing in from Lake Biwa.
