About Nakaya

"Oyu-yado Nakaya" is a long-established onsen ryokan in Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma District, Niigata Prefecture. Perched on a hill in Yuzawa, it offers superb open-air views from its roofless open-air bath, where you can take in the townscape spread out below, the Shinkansen, and the magnificent Tanigawa mountain range. The onsen uses a precious private spring that has been gushing from a limestone cave in the mountains behind the inn for several hundred years, drawn as luxurious 100% natural free-flowing hot spring water with no filtration or circulation at all. The large public bath also features a low-temperature far-infrared sauna where you can relax at ease, as well as reclining baths and half-body baths. There are also rooms with their own onsen baths where you can enjoy two different springs, and you can spend an exquisite moment savoring seasonal kaiseki cuisine served in your room.

Large Public Bath

A precious private spring that has been continuously gushing from a limestone cave in the mountains behind the inn for several hundred years is used exactly as it is, as 100% free-flowing hot spring water with no heating, dilution, circulation, or disinfection at all. It is characterized by a faint sulfur scent and dancing hot-spring minerals, has a high alkaline content, and feels exceptionally soft and smooth on the skin. From the open, roofless outdoor bath, you can take in the unobstructed beautiful townscape of Yuzawa and a sweeping panorama of the Tanigawa mountain range, enjoying blissful hot spring bathing together with the natural breeze.

Guest Room Open-Air Bath

A private Suwa spring that can be enjoyed in guest rooms with an onsen open-air bath in the Yunosaka Wing. With a different water quality from the large public bath, it contains salt and therefore has outstanding heat-retaining effects, keeping you warm long after bathing. This fresh spring water, gushing at 57 degrees, is used as free-flowing hot spring water with no dilution or heating whatsoever, with only the volume adjusted, allowing you to fully savor a luxurious second famous spring in a private space with spectacular views.
