An onsen resort area in Abashiri, Hokkaido, with inns built along the shore of Lake Abashiri. In its quiet, elevated setting overlooking the lake, only the forest on the opposite shore and the water come into view. In summer, you can walk through the primeval forest along the lakeshore; in winter, smelt fishing takes place on the frozen lake. It is also close to the Abashiri Prison Museum and the Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum, and during drift ice season you can head out to the sea.
