About KIKI Shiretoko Natural Resort
KIKI Shiretoko Natural Resort is an onsen resort hotel in Shari-cho, Shari-gun, Hokkaido. Its greatest draw is a set of four distinctive saunas produced by Totonoe Oyakata: Kurouna, where you sink into darkness; Neuna, where you lie back and unwind; a sauna for whisking yourself; and the igloo sauna, scented by its wood-burning stove. Each offers a different quality of heat. After cooling down in the deep cold plunge, blissful time cooling off in the open air awaits, as if melting into the silence of the Shiretoko forest. The main bathhouse brims with natural onsen water, a chloride spring that holds its warmth well and soothes away the fatigue of travel to the core.
Hot SpringONSEN
Main bathhouse
The main bathhouse uses a sodium chloride and hydrogen carbonate spring. The water feels gentle on the skin and holds its warmth well, heating the body to the core. In a quiet space surrounded by forest, with large windows drawing in the scenery, you can lose track of time and give yourself over to the water.
SaunaSAUNA
Neuna
A sauna designed for lying down. Without holding back for anyone around you, you can let go completely and enjoy the heat in a relaxed position. Steam from the löyly you pour yourself wraps gently around the body and slowly draws out a deep sweat.
Kurouna
A sauna set in a jet-black room shaped entirely like a triangle. Its classic Finnish-style design lets you enjoy pleasant heat from the löyly you pour yourself. The dark interior is deeply immersive, so you can quietly turn inward without worrying about anyone else’s gaze.
Whisking sauna
A sauna rare in Japan where you can whisk yourself with a vihta. A steam generator inside the room creates pleasant humidity and a gentle quality of heat. Because the room is kept at a mild temperature, you can stay a long while and savor the fragrance at your own pace.
Igloo sauna
A dome-shaped sauna born in Estonia, set in the open-air area outdoors. It runs on a wood-burning stove, something very rare for a hotel, and the crackle of burning wood and its distinctive toasty scent stir all five senses. You can pour löyly yourself and enjoy both powerful heat and the soft, circulating steam.
Cold BathCOLD BATH
Cold plunge
The cold plunge, found in both the men’s and women’s areas, is 120 cm (about 4 ft) deep, enough to immerse your whole body and cool you down at once after the heat of the sauna. Press a button and water pours over your head from above for an exhilarating refresh. After the cold plunge, time cooling off in the open air awaits, wrapped in the clear Shiretoko air and at one with the wild nature around you.
