KAMEYA HOTEL is an onsen inn in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture. Its biggest draws are rooms that all look out over the Sea of Japan and the Ryugu-den Sauna, set in a building from the Taisho era. The sauna has two spaces themed on the sea and the sky. After a long, slow sweat in the dry sauna or mist sauna, you can relax deeply with the cold plunge and time cooling off in the open air with a spectacular view. The main bathhouse and some guest rooms are filled with natural onsen water from a chloride spring, fed straight from the source, never recirculated, and loved as a “warming bath” for how well it holds heat. You can also drink the water, taking in the onsen’s benefits from the inside too. Hot SpringONSEN
[Main bathhouse]
The main bathhouse, with its plentiful flow of water, has a stone bath, a hinoki bath and an open-air bath. Natural onsen water from a chloride spring, loved as a “warming bath” for how well it holds heat, pours in generously, fed straight from the source, never recirculated. Because it leaves a thin film of salt on the skin, the warmth stays deep in your body long after you get out. You can also drink the water, taking in the onsen’s benefits from the inside too.
[Open-air baths in guest rooms]
Some guest rooms have their own open-air or indoor bath, where you can keep natural onsen water fed straight from the source, never recirculated, all to yourself in private. Undisturbed, you can enjoy the fresh water whenever and for as long as you like. With the spectacular Sea of Japan outside the window and the sound of the waves as your soundtrack, you can savor a sublime soak to your heart’s content.
SaunaSAUNA
[Ryugu-den Sauna Umi]
A dry sauna set in an open space looking out over the Sea of Japan. The room is divided down the middle, and on one side you can enjoy löyly you pour yourself, ladling water over the sauna stones at your own pace. Watching a view that changes by the moment, from the deep blue sea to the setting sun, you can sweat slowly and pleasantly at the humidity and temperature you like.
[Ryugu-den Sauna Sora] Dry sauna
A dry sauna in a quiet space with a terrace open to the sky. Gazing at the calm sky, you can quietly turn inward. Löyly you pour yourself is available, and soft steam warms you gently to the core for a blissful stretch of time.

A mist sauna filled with fine, misty vapor. It feels less stifling, with a mild heat that wraps gently around the body. Feeling deeply moisturized, you can ease the tension in body and mind and enjoy an unhurried, relaxing time.
