Hiroshima Prefecture’s first renovated sento, reborn in Kure

Hiroshima Kure City

A fully renovated sento, the first of its kind in Hiroshima Prefecture, located on the third floor of a brick-style building adjacent to Nakamachi Shopping Street along the Saka River, just a 9-minute walk from JR Kure Station. Its predecessor, Tsukimi Yu, had been in operation since the mid-Taisho era, later transformed into Akabiru Onsen after the war, and reopened in the end of 2024 as Akabiru no Yu. Traditional sento-style bathing with several tubs, including a shallow bath, deep bath, and electric bath, is combined with a cypress-scented dry sauna equipped with a Harvia stove, a rare three-type cold bath setup including a reclining cold plunge bath, and an iron plate bath available only in the women’s bath. Self-löyly is possible using an hourglass, and the short circulation between the tototon chairs and indoor air bath makes it easy to relax. With cashless payment support including credit cards, QR codes, and transportation IC cards, along with a clean changing room and Refa hair dryers, it has become a new neighborhood bath where younger generations can drop in casually.

Men's

A luxurious enclosed bōna sauna made with premium Japanese cypress. A Finnish Harvia stove achieves both high heat and humidity, and self-löyly is performed by timing it with an hourglass. As the steam circulates through the room, the perceived temperature rises at once, delivering serious sweating beyond what you would expect from a sento.

Women's

A women-only iron plate bath where you lie on a perforated stainless-steel plate and are gently warmed by geothermal heat. Though low-temperature, it warms you deeply from the core, and its soft sweat differs from that of a dry sauna. With a towel laid down while you recline, it is also popular as a finishing touch before leaving the bath.
