Hotel Iya Onsen is an onsen inn in Miyoshi, Tokushima Prefecture. It sits in the Iya Valley, one of Japan’s three great hidden regions, and its natural onsen lies at the bottom of the gorge, reached by the inn’s own cable car down the cliff, with water fed straight from the source, never recirculated. At the open-air bath, built to jut out over the Iya River, water welling up naturally from the ground wraps your whole body in fine, champagne-like bubbles. From the panoramic main bathhouse inside, you look down on a sweeping view of the Iya Valley, framed by the windows like a painting. [Open-Air Baths] Kinuawa-Muso-no-Yu, Keikoku-no-Yu, Seseragi-no-Yu
These open-air baths wait at the bottom of the gorge, at the end of the ride down on the inn’s own cable car. Built to jut out over the Iya River, they are filled with abundant water that wells up naturally, fed straight from the source, never recirculated. White mineral flakes drift in the water, and fine, champagne-like bubbles gently wrap your whole body. Listening to birdsong and the murmur of the river, you can savor a rustic soak that feels at one with the wild.
[Panoramic Main Bathhouse] Sora-no-Yu
An airy panoramic main bathhouse where the line between inside and outside seems to disappear. With the Iya Valley as a borrowed backdrop, a vast panorama spreads out like a painting, and from the bath you can watch clouds drift past as if dancing and take in the soft sunlight. The silky, slippery alkaline water wraps smoothly around your skin, bringing a free and blissful sense of relaxation, as though you were floating in the sky.
[Private Open-Air Bath] Yamagiri-no-Yu
A private open-air bath where you can have a natural onsen, fed straight from the source, never recirculated, all to yourself.
