About Dogo Onsen Funaya

"Funaya" is a long-established ryokan in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. Since its founding in the Kanei era, it has been a beloved inn representing Dogo Onsen, cherished by many writers and artists. Its proud hot spring offers a luxurious bath made with 100% of the Dogo Onsen source water. There are two large public baths, Hinoki-yu, made with ancient cypress, and Mikage-yu, accented with Iyo Oshima stone, and each features an open-air bath and a sauna. Strolling through the vast garden known as Eifutei, which covers about 1,500 tsubo, and enjoying the foot bath are also part of the appeal. In a space where history and tradition live on, you can spend blissful moments of rest while soaking in a famous hot spring.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
