About Dogo-kan

A renowned ryokan where tradition and modernity coexist, designed by the master of contemporary architecture, Kisho Kurokawa, with the image of an Edo-period inn in mind. The large bath uses 100% water drawn from Dogo Onsen, Japan's oldest hot spring with a long history. The rustic bathhouse, accented with stone and wood, features a wide variety of tubs, including hot water, lukewarm water, a reclining bath, and a cascading waterfall bath in a free-flowing style. It also comes with a dry sauna and a cold plunge bath, allowing guests to fully savor this famous spring in a serene space reached through the atmospheric path of steam.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
