About Wakamatsu Ryokan

"Kappo Ryokan Wakamatsu" is a long-established hot spring inn in Hakodate, Hokkaido, founded in Taisho 11 (1922). It offers its rich private spring water, which gushed naturally from the property at 57.6 degrees Celsius, as free-flowing bath water in the large bath and open-air bath. The sodium-calcium chloride spring water is excellent for retaining heat and moisture, gently warming both body and mind from deep within. From all rooms and the hot spring baths, guests can take in sweeping ocean views of the Tsugaru Strait, and enjoy an exquisite bathing experience while listening to the sea breeze and the sound of the waves. With private baths and superb kappo cuisine, backed by a Michelin-recognized track record, it promises a blissful stay.

Yumoto Wakamatsu no Yu

A free-flowing natural hot spring that makes lavish use of the abundant private spring water gushing from the source on the property at 57.6 degrees Celsius. The sodium-calcium chloride spring water is also called a hot spring of warmth, and its salt content gently coats the skin to provide outstanding heat-retaining and moisturizing effects, keeping you warm long after you leave the bath. There is an open-air bath with a spectacular view over the Tsugaru Strait; the men’s bath is made of marble, and the women’s bath is made of cypress. Bathing while listening to the sound of the waves and looking out toward the Shimokita Peninsula is an extraordinary luxury unique to this long-established inn.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
