Ogawa Onsen Motoyu Hotel Ogawa is an onsen inn in Asahi Town, Toyama Prefecture. Surrounded by the peaks of the Northern Alps, it sits quietly beside a mountain stream. Here you can indulge in a colorless, clear bicarbonate spring that has been loved for more than 400 years since the onsen opened in 1617, fed straight from the source, never recirculated. Besides the spacious main bathhouse and a huge open-air bath in a tub made entirely of hinoki, a short walk along the gorge brings you to the Natural Cave Open-Air Bath (mixed bathing), set in travertine designated a natural monument, and Renge-no-Yu, an open-air bath for women only, so you can make your way around the baths in the embrace of nature, far from everyday life. Away from the bustle, a special stay awaits, soothed by the murmur of the river and stunning scenery through the four seasons.

In the main bathhouse, large, bright windows let you take a leisurely soak while gazing at the babbling Ogawa River and the mountains as they change through the seasons. Alongside it are a huge tub-shaped open-air bath made entirely of hinoki and a rock open-air bath whose rugged natural stones make you feel at one with nature. A colorless, clear bicarbonate spring flows in, fed straight from the source, never recirculated, keeping you deeply warm from the outside in and the inside out. Wrapped in pleasant stillness and the sound of the river, you can savor a truly refined soak.
Mixed-Bathing Open-Air Bath
A few minutes’ walk upstream along the Ogawa River from the inn lies this hidden onsen, designated a natural monument by Asahi Town. It is a mixed-bathing open-air bath fed straight from the source, never recirculated, set in a travertine cave formed over many years as mineral flakes built up and hardened. You can bathe wearing the dedicated bathing wrap and feel an extraordinary sense of freedom on your skin, embraced by the vast nature before your eyes. Sky, mountains and the murmuring river come together in the ultimate place to unwind.
