About Ochiairo
Ochiairo is an onsen inn in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, registered as a Tangible Cultural Property. It offers five saunas, each with its own character, including a tea-house sauna selected by SAUNACHELIN and a barrel sauna on the bank of the Kano River, so you can enjoy deep relaxation surrounded by nature. The inn takes pride in its calcium-sodium sulfate spring water, fed straight from the source and never recirculated, and in the cave bath and the open-air bath overlooking the mountain stream you can soak to your heart’s content in its “bath for beautiful skin.” It is a quiet, elegant private resort for overnight guests only, far from the bustle of everyday life.
Hot SpringONSEN
Tengu-no-Yu
A mixed bathing onsen with an open-air bath overlooking the mountains of Izu and the Kano River, and a cave bath wrapped in steam. Its calcium-sodium sulfate spring water, fed straight from the source and never recirculated, is highly moisturizing and has long been loved as a “bath for beautiful skin.” In this spacious setting you can soak to your heart’s content while feeling the breath of nature.
Tsuki-no-Yu
An indoor bath in a relaxed space where sunlight filters through the trees. The calcium-sodium sulfate spring water, fed straight from the source and never recirculated, feels soft and gently embraces your skin. In this quiet space you can spend a blissful moment warming up to the core as you sense the changing seasons.
Hoshi-no-Yu
An open, airy open-air bath embraced by nature. Listening to the murmur of the mountain stream, you can soak in calcium-sodium sulfate spring water fed straight from the source and never recirculated. Surrounded by clear air and lush nature, you can forget the bustle of everyday life and enjoy a luxurious time.
Villa Shakunage
A vast open-air bath and an indoor bath reserved for guests of this separate villa, a nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property renovated and rented out as a whole. Here you can have natural onsen water, fed straight from the source and never recirculated, all to yourself in a private space, undisturbed by anyone. The greenery seen through the windows, the sound of the river and the breeze passing through come together to create a supremely relaxing experience that feels far from the everyday yet warm and welcoming.

Tea-House Sauna
A sauna modeled on a traditional tea house, created by a leading figure in the sauna world. Its tasteful design earned it a place in SAUNACHELIN, and here you can spend a quiet moment wrapped in stillness, feeling the spirit of Japan. Gentle heat slowly warms your whole body in a space made for deep relaxation.
Tengu Sauna
A sauna built so that onsen water flows into it, giving the air a deeply moisturizing quality. The walls are lined entirely with hinoki, and you can relax deeply surrounded by the rich scent of the wood. It is a special space where you can also take in the untamed natural scenery of the Kano River.
Hoshi Sauna
A square barrel sauna set in Hoshi-no-Yu. It is built from thermowood from Estonia in northern Europe, and a toasty, deep aroma fills the room. As you sense the breathing of nature around you, gentle heat slowly warms you from your feet to the core of your body.
Barrel Sauna
A riverside barrel sauna standing right on the bank of the Kano River. A kit for löyly you pour yourself, vihta and aroma oils are provided, so you can tailor the humidity and scent to your liking. After the sauna, step into the river right in front of you and experience a wild, untamed totonou, that deep state of relaxation, in the heart of nature.
Irori Sauna
A sauna built around an irori hearth in the private space of Shakunage, Ochiairo’s separate villa. In a room soothed by the scent of wood and soft lighting, gentle heat spreads through your whole body as if you were gathered around a hearth. It promises a special time to refresh, undisturbed by anyone.

Riverside cold plunge
A dramatic cold plunge that makes direct use of the natural river flowing right in front of the barrel sauna. Cool your heated body pleasantly in the clear river water, then enjoy cooling off in the open air as you breathe the fresh riverside air. Its appeal is the overwhelming exhilaration of becoming one with nature.
Cold plunge
The cold plunge beside each sauna is generously filled with natural river water nurtured by Izu’s rich nature. The clear water gently envelops a body heated to its limit in the sauna and cools you down in one go with a pleasant chill. It is known for the mellow feel on the skin that only natural water has, and after stepping out of the cold plunge you can enjoy blissful time cooling off in the open air, listening to the murmur of the Kano River and the rustling of the trees as if you were becoming one with nature.

- About 45–50 minutes from Mishima Station via the Izu Chuo Road
By train and bus
- Mishima Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen, or Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line
- From stop 5 at the South Exit of Shuzenji Station, take a Tokai Bus to Arajuku (about 35 minutes), then walk about 1 minute
- From the South Exit of Shuzenji Station, take a Tokai Bus to Yugashima Onsen-guchi (about 30 minutes), then walk about 15 minutes
