About Kyukamura Omihachiman

Kyukamura Omihachiman is a lakeside onsen inn on Lake Biwa in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. Its two buildings, the East Wing and the West Wing, stand at Miyagahama in Biwako Quasi-National Park, and every guest room faces the lake. The first natural onsen to spring up in Omihachiman City is a simple spring, and guests praise how its warmth lingers long after bathing. The East Wing on the hill has a sauna as well as an indoor bath and an open-air bath, and from the open-air bath you can see all the way to Okishima Island floating on the lake and the Hira Mountains. The lakeside West Wing has an indoor bath only, but overnight guests can move between the baths of both wings during set hours. With meals of Omi beef and fare from the lake, plus a campground and a pool, it is an inn where you can spend an entire lakeside holiday.

Main bathhouse (East Wing)

The main bathhouse of the East Wing, standing on the hill. It has both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, and as you sink into the open-air bath, Lake Biwa spreads out before you, with everything from Okishima Island floating on the lake to the Hira Mountains on the far shore in view. The simple spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, low-temperature), the first to spring up in Omihachiman City, feels soft on the skin, and its warmth lasts long after bathing. A soak as the lake glows at dusk or in the clear morning light is a luxury only this inn can offer.

The main bathhouse of the West Wing, standing on the lakeshore, is simply laid out with an indoor bath only. From the bath you look out on Okishima Island and Lake Biwa, with the water’s surface close at hand. It draws the same simple spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, low-temperature) as the East Wing, soft to the touch, and guests praise how the warmth stays with you for a while after you get out. It is just right for warming up a body chilled by swimming in the lake or the pool, and you can enjoy the water any time, at night or early in the morning.

A sauna attached to the East Wing’s main bathhouse, with one in both the men’s and women’s baths. It is open from evening into the night, so it suits a visit at the end of a day spent walking around the lakeshore. In this quiet space open only to overnight guests, you can settle in and take your time working up a sweat. As you breathe deeply again and again, the heat reaches your core and the fatigue of travel slowly eases. Guests staying in the West Wing can also walk over to the East Wing and use it during set hours.
