Ishikawa Kaga City
A superb Yamanaka Onsen resort where the murmur of the mountain stream and a celebrated onsen soothe you
Oedo Onsen Monogatari Yamanaka Saichoraku is an onsen inn in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture. It stands in Yamanaka Onsen, praised by Matsuo Basho and some 1,300 years old, and its appeal lies in the rich natural setting facing the gorge of the Daishoji River. From the main bathhouse and the open-air bath you look out on deep-green mountains, and to the murmur of the river you can soak to your heart’s content in soft, mildly alkaline natural onsen water. Inside there is a sauna and a cold plunge, as well as a warm-stone room where you can work up a slow sweat in the wear provided. After bathing you can cool off on the wooden terrace overlooking the Kakusenkei gorge; everything is in place for a long, easygoing stay.

An expansive main bathhouse and open-air bath facing the gorge of the Daishoji River. The water of Yamanaka Onsen, loved by Matsuo Basho, is a mildly alkaline simple spring that sits gently on the skin. In the open-air bath, with birdsong and the murmur of the river as background music, you can take a blissful soak while gazing at the natural beauty of each season.

A quiet sauna room beside the main bathhouse. In a space warm with wood, you can sit with the heat at your own pace. Gentle, comfortable heat wraps around the whole body, and the fatigue and tension of daily life slowly melt away. In the stillness you can spend a time of deep relaxation.

A warm-stone area that men and women can use together, dressed in the wear provided for it. Lie down on heated natural ore, and its far-infrared effect warms you slowly to the core. It encourages a comfortable, unforced sweat, a blissful space that brings deep relaxation and a detox effect.
