About Zao Onsen Omiya Ryokan
"Omiya Ryokan" is a nostalgic hot spring inn in Zao Onsen, Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. The building exudes a Taisho-era romantic atmosphere, and the entire property is covered with tatami mats, from the corridors to the stairs, so guests can relax comfortably in bare feet. Known as Zao’s premier source spring, it offers a choice of distinctive baths, including an egg-shaped wooden tub and a source spring bath filled with naturally gushing highly acidic sulfur spring water from the stone retaining walls on the grounds. All of it is enjoyed as 100% free-flowing natural spring water with no added water or reheating. After soaking in the superb hot spring with floating mineral deposits, guests can look forward to a soothing and luxurious stay with creative cuisine centered on Yamagata beef and hot spring hopping at the sister property.

Egg Bath
An indoor bath with a characteristic egg shape, featuring entirely wooden tubs that are gentle on the feet. Large glass windows on two sides let in a bright, open light, and as you soak in the milky-white highly acidic sulfur spring water with floating mineral deposits, you can enjoy a deep sense of relaxation, as if the knots in both body and mind are slowly loosening.
Source Spring Bath / Bubble Bath
A calm indoor bath space filled with the pleasant scent of wood. In addition to luxuriating in fresh natural spring water flowing straight from Zao’s premier source spring, there is also a tub where soft bubbles gently envelop the body, fully bringing out the appeal of this famous spring, said to be highly effective for beautiful skin.
Open-Air Source Spring Bath
A rustic open-air bath that draws fresh milky-white source spring water, continuously gushing from the stone retaining walls within the ryokan grounds, directly into the tub. Surrounded by the cool outdoor air and the scent of sulfur, you can feel this superb 100% natural hot spring—pure bounty from the earth—directly on your skin.
Foot Bath
A foot bath corner where even non-guests can casually stop by and enjoy Zao’s famous hot spring. Whether while strolling through town or between baths, you can gently ease coldness and fatigue from the feet up with the soothing warmth of the milky-white sulfur spring and enjoy a moment full of hot spring atmosphere.
