An onsen town developed along the shores of Lake Akan in Akan-Mashu National Park, Kushiro, Hokkaido. Inns line the shore of this lake famous for its marimo, and from the baths you can look out over the lake surface and Mount Oakan. A kotan where Ainu people live adjoins the area, and the chance to experience wood carving and traditional dance is unique to this place. In winter, fireworks and ice events are held on the frozen lake.
