Oita Hita City
An onsen area in Oita Prefecture’s Hita City, where inns line the banks of the Mikuma River. This town once flourished as a direct territory of the Edo shogunate, and in Mamedamachi, white-walled merchant houses still remain. The water is colorless, clear, and gentle. In summer, cormorant fishing and Yakatabune boat cruises on the river are famous, while in autumn the morning river mist is a signature sight. You can also enjoy local flavors from the river and mountains, such as Hita yakisoba and ayu sweetfish.
