Tochigi Nikko City

Stay in Kawaji Onsen

An onsen town in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, where inns line the valley where the Ojika and Kinugawa rivers meet. It is said to have been discovered after a flood in the Edo period, and has long been known as a place for therapeutic bathing, with the saying, “For wounds, Kawaji; for burns, Taki.” Its simple alkaline spring water is gentle on the skin and easy for children to enjoy. Along the river, there is an open-air bath that anyone can use, where you can soak while listening to the sounds of the gorge.
