A therapeutic onsen village in Gunma with a thousand-year history, whose founding legend tells of an injured deer soaking in its waters. It draws water from a source upstream on the Yujiri River. Located on a plateau at an elevation of 1,400 meters, it is also known as the place where the famous song Yukiyama Sanka was born.
