About Kyukamura Tsumagoi Kazawa

"Kyukamura Tsumagoi Kazawa" is a hot spring resort hotel in Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. It stands at an elevation of 1,400 m in Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park, on a plateau surrounded by a birch forest, and the walking paths on the grounds offer seasonal encounters with alpine plants throughout the year. The baths use Kazawa Onsen, a hot spring with more than 1,000 years of history. It began with a legend that a wounded deer healed itself there, and this old spring, once bustling as a therapeutic bath destination from the Edo period through the Taisho period, draws water from a source spring located 2.5 km upstream along the Yujiri River. The large public bath, with an indoor bath and an open-air bath, has one for men and one for women. From the open-air baths surrounded by trees, you can take in fresh greenery, autumn colors, and snowy scenery while soaking in the tub. Day-use bathing is also available. It is also known as the birthplace of the famous song "Yukiyama Sanka."

Large public bath

The large public bath, with both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, is available separately for men and women. The water is drawn from Kazawa Onsen, a hot spring with more than 1,000 years of history, via a pipeline from a source spring located 2.5 km upstream along the Yujiri River. The spring quality is magnesium-sodium bicarbonate spring water. As officially described as a "beauty bath," the water feels gentle on the skin and is said to be effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, sensitivity to cold, and recovery from fatigue. In the past, bathers even crossed mountain roads repeatedly to come for therapeutic stays. Soaking in the open-air bath surrounded by trees lets you look out over fresh greenery, autumn foliage, and snowy scenery, bringing the four seasons of the highlands into view.
