"Sekizenkan Kashoutei" is located in Shima Onsen in Nakanojo Town, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture, and is Japan's oldest hot spring ryokan, boasting over 300 years of history since its founding in 1691. Kashoutei sits on the highest part of the grounds and offers an exceptional relaxation space surrounded by old pine trees. All of the baths are fed by fresh, 100% free-flowing natural hot spring water with no added water or reheating. Guests can fully enjoy an ultimate bathing experience at the registered tangible cultural property "Genroku no Yu," steeped in Taisho romanticism, the open-air bath "Mori no Yu" for forest bathing, and the one-person "mushi-yu," considered an early prototype of the sauna.

Large Bath Mori no Yu

A tranquil large bath available only to guests staying at Kashoutei or Sanso, surrounded by rich nature. It has an indoor bath and an adjoining open-air bath, both generously filled with fresh source water flowing directly from the spring with no added water or reheating. You can enjoy a blissful forest-bathing experience while taking in the changing seasons of Shima in full color: the fresh greenery of spring, the refreshing breeze of summer, the brilliant autumn leaves, and the solemn snowy landscape of winter, all while listening to the murmuring stream and birdsong.

Registered Tangible Cultural Property Genroku no Yu

Built in 1930, this bathhouse is a registered tangible cultural property and one of Japan's most beautiful, preserving the atmosphere of Taisho romanticism. Beautiful light streaming in through the high ceiling and arched windows gently envelops the bathing area. Five historic stone baths set into the floor are filled to the brim with abundant naturally flowing spring water from Shima Onsen, allowing guests to savor a luxurious bath-hopping experience as they feel the different temperatures of the water and reflect on the bathing culture of that era.

Private Family Bath Sanso no Yu Seki and Zen

A charming private lockable bath available free of charge to guests staying at Kashoutei or Sanso. Two atmospheric indoor baths, "Seki" and "Zen," are available. No advance reservation is required, and if it is vacant, you can lock the door from the inside and enjoy bathing as many times as you like in complete privacy. As with the other baths, it is filled with fresh 100% free-flowing spring water, so you can enjoy a soothing soak and quiet conversation with someone special at your leisure.
