Kagoshima Kirishima City
The collective name for the onsen scattered across the southwestern slopes of the Kirishima mountain range in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, at elevations of 600–850 m. Nine onsen, large and small, make up the area, including Maruo, Hayashida and Iodani, and the waters vary from sulfur-bearing springs to simple springs. Inns line the streets of Maruo Onsen, the heart of the area, and steam rises from all over town. Iodani Onsen is also known as the place Sakamoto Ryoma and his wife visited on their honeymoon, and in the clear mountain air you can enjoy going from onsen to onsen.
