An onsen village made up of seven inns, embraced by the primeval beech forests of Towada-Hachimantai National Park in Akita Prefecture. Each inn has its own source and its own type of spring water, so in a single stay you can make your way around everything from milky-white sulfur springs to colorless, clear bicarbonate springs. In winter, it is cut off by deep snow and is known as the epitome of Japan’s hidden onsen.
