Yamagata Tsuruoka City
An onsen resort in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, where inns line the sandy beach along the Sea of Japan. With a history of about 1,000 years since its opening, it is said that an injured turtle once bathed in its waters, and it was formerly called Kame no Yu. Its chloride spring warms the body from deep within and helps you stay warm long after bathing. Many inns offer views of the sunset sinking into the sea from the bath, and in winter, winter cod (kandara) is served, while in summer, rock oysters and other seafood from Shonai appear on the table.
