“Mikazuki Onsen Shoho” is a top-class hot spring hotel in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, and has continued to be selected as one of the “5-star inns.” Its greatest attraction is the observation open-air bath “Utsukushino-yu,” where you can take in sweeping views of the majestic Northern Alps and the glittering night scenery of Matsumoto Castle town. Designated by the Ministry of the Environment as a “National Health Hot Spring Area,” it lets you fully enjoy a famous hot spring with outstanding panoramic views. The prefecture’s largest public bath, “Tsukama no Yu,” is equipped with a garden open-air bath, a jacuzzi, and a gentle low-temperature sauna. It also offers private spaces such as rooms with open-air baths and 3 types of private baths.

Observation open-air bath Utsukushino-yu

An exceptional observation bath where you can take in panoramic night views of Matsumoto Castle town and the majestic Northern Alps. It is a men’s and women’s alternating-use bath. The tub creates a wonderful sense of floating, as if it were connected to an unobstructed panorama, and its outstanding location is a major draw. The adjoining indoor bath area is equipped with a variety of baths, including the “Silk Bath,” where fine bubbles gently envelop the skin and provide a refreshing effect, allowing you to enjoy a luxurious soak while gazing at the spectacular scenery.

Public bath Tsukama no Yu

A public bath boasting one of the largest spaces in the prefecture. The spacious main tub lets you stretch out your arms and legs in comfort, easing away the fatigue of a day of travel. In the garden open-air bath connected directly from the indoor bath, you can soak gently while admiring beautiful plants and trees that change with the seasons. In addition, there is also an open-air jacuzzi, where fine bubbles and ultrasound pleasantly stimulate and loosen the body, making it easy to spend a relaxed and comfortable time.

Private garden baths

3 paid private baths with different styles, where you can quietly enjoy hot springs in a private setting. The baths include the garden-style “Goten no Yu,” which connects an indoor bath and a garden open-air bath and is attractive for its spacious design; the bright, Japanese-modern “Kihei no Yu,” based on the warmth of wood; and the calm, mature-modern “Hisho no Yu,” featuring dark stonework. With family or someone special, you can lavishly have this famous hot spring all to yourselves without worrying about others.

A low-temperature sauna with a gentle heat, provided in the men’s and women’s public baths. It uses a special Emy-Pass sauna system that combines far-infrared rays, radiant heat, and air convection, making it less likely to feel the stuffy discomfort typical of sauna rooms. Because the room temperature is kept mild, it places less strain on the body and allows you to slowly and gently encourage deep sweating over time. Even sauna beginners and those who do not like hot saunas can enjoy a relaxing, meditative time while comfortably working up a sweat.
