Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-Yu is a day-use onsen bathhouse in Karuizawa, Nagano. Here you can luxuriate in a celebrated natural onsen, loved by many writers and artists since the Taisho era, fed straight from the source, never recirculated. After a long, slow sweat in the Bona sauna, where soft steam fills the room, the cold plunge of spring water from the Wild Bird Forest cools you down crisply. In the open-air bath surrounded by trees and the high-ceilinged indoor bath, you can feel at one with nature through the seasons. A natural onsen fed straight from the source, never recirculated and with no water added, loved by many writers and artists since the Taisho era. The baths are filled with fresh water every day and overflow with a “bath for beautiful skin” that removes dead skin cells and leaves the skin moist and supple. In the high-ceilinged indoor bath, built generously with hinoki and natural stone, and the airy open-air bath lined with large granite boulders, you can enjoy a blissful soak that makes you feel at one with the surrounding woods and the changing seasons.

In the Bona sauna, soft indirect lighting creates a modern mood, and water is poured onto the heat source at regular intervals, spreading gentle steam through the room.
