About Sauna & Capsule Hotel Hokuou

"Sauna & Capsule Hotel Hokuyo" is a male-only sauna facility located in Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo. Known as a sacred place among sauna enthusiasts nationwide, it served as the setting for the drama "Sa-do." The high-temperature sauna, exceeding 100°C, allows for self-löyly, filling the room with aromatic steam. After tightening your body in the cold plunge bath, you can achieve totonou while gazing at the city sky in the rooftop outdoor air bath space. The open-air bath features "Togoru no Yu," using minerals from Niigata Prefecture. With a restaurant, manga corner, and Wi-Fi available, it is conveniently located a 1-minute walk from JR Ueno Station and is open 24 hours.

Hot SpringONSEN

Togoru no Yu

An artificial hot spring offered in the open-air bath. It uses the rare weathered mineral "Togoru Warmtite" sourced from near Tochiomata Onsen in Niigata Prefecture. The water dissolved with this mineral lightly stimulates the skin, promoting metabolism and improving blood circulation. It excels in heat retention, moisturizing, and cleansing effects, and helps to relieve muscle stiffness. Our facility is the only place in the Ueno area where you can experience Togoru no Yu. After the sauna and cold plunge bath, soaking while exposed to the outdoor air warms you from the core and relieves fatigue.

First Sauna Room

The main sauna room of Hokuyo. A spacious three-tiered space with a perfect balance of high temperature and humidity. Self-löyly is possible, and when you pour aromatic water on the sauna stones, rich steam rises in the room. As depicted in the drama "Sa-do," it is a space where sauna enthusiasts quietly face the heat. Sitting on the upper tier increases the perceived temperature, allowing for deep sweating in a short time. In a quiet environment without a TV, you can have a meditative sauna experience.

Second Sauna Room

Men's

A relaxing space with a lower temperature than the first sauna room. The scent of cypress and camphor wood drifts, and healing music plays. The gentle heat gradually envelops your body, making it less burdensome even for long stays. Ideal for those who are not fond of high temperatures or want to warm up slowly. The scent of wood and relaxing music soothe the senses, relaxing both body and mind. By alternating with the first sauna room, you can create your own sauna routine.

A cold plunge bath designed to complement the high-temperature sauna. With a water depth of 60–80 cm, you can immerse yourself up to your shoulders. It quickly cools down your body heated in the sauna exceeding 100°C, providing a sensation of tightening blood vessels. Although there may be slight temperature variations by day, it generally offers a crisp coldness that removes body heat in a short time. The flow from the sauna room is well-designed, allowing you to fully enjoy the contrast between heat and cold.
