Yamanashi Nanbu Town
A healing forest with a highly alkaline natural hot spring that promotes beautiful skin and about 8,000 books waiting inside
"Mori no naka no Onsen Nanbu no Yu" is a day-use hot spring facility in Nanbu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. Designed around the concept of a forest hot spring, the facility features a book lounge with a collection of about 8,000 volumes and a variety of relaxation spaces, letting guests enjoy both the excitement of exploration and deep relaxation at the same time. Its greatest appeal is the highly alkaline natural hot spring that gushes from deep underground and is among the most concentrated in Japan. The superb texture of the water gently melts away daily fatigue with its silky feel against the skin. The sauna scented with locally sourced hinoki, the open-air cool-down area, and additional facilities such as a dining area serving proper gourmet dishes and spa treatments are all well equipped, allowing guests to savor a full day of high-quality healing.

An alkaline simple spring gushing from 1,500 meters underground, rich in the blessings of the earth. This exquisite hot spring, one of the most highly alkaline in Japan, feels silky and smooth the moment it touches your skin and is highly regarded as a skin-beautifying bath. While taking in the breath of abundant nature, you can enjoy a blissful bathing experience that seems to loosen every corner of both body and mind.

This dry sauna makes generous use of fragrant hinoki from Nanbu Town, filling your whole body with the heat of the sauna stones and the refreshing aroma of trees, as if you were taking a deep breath in a deep forest. If you surrender yourself to the fine mist, the gentle steam wraps softly around your skin and warms you thoroughly from the core. After cooling down your thoroughly heated body in the refreshing cold plunge bath, head to the open-air cool-down area. Sink deeply into an infinity chair and quietly close your eyes while feeling the natural breeze on your skin, and a peaceful sense of calm will wash over you.

A moisturizing sauna where delicate mist gently fills the room. The soft steam wraps around your skin and warms you slowly from the core without any feeling of stuffiness. Even if you do not enjoy intense heat in a dry sauna, you can comfortably enjoy the sweating process and savor an indulgent, moisture-rich time of deep relaxation.

A refreshing cold plunge bath that sharply cools and tightens a body fully warmed in the sauna. After pleasantly cooling down heated muscles, head to the open-air cool-down area. Sink deeply into an infinity chair and quietly close your eyes while feeling the natural breeze on your skin, and an exquisite totonou experience will come over you, as if everyday fatigue were gently melting away.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
