HOTELSeasideShimabara

A hot-spring resort with panoramic Ariake Sea views and one of Japan’s rare high-concentration carbonated springs

Nagasaki Shimabara City

HOTEL Seaside Shimabara is a hot-spring resort hotel in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The hotel offers two main bathing areas — the New Wing panoramic bath and the Main Building therapeutic bathhouse — each equipped with a dry sauna and cold plunge bath, and day-trip bathing is available from early morning through the evening. Guests can enjoy two distinct springs, one of Japan’s rare high-concentration carbonated springs and the gentle Shimabara hot spring, both with views over the Ariake Sea. Outdoor baths that carry the sea breeze and tubs where carbonated bubbles cling to the skin create an exceptional experience, allowing you to relax immersed in the natural setting of Shimabara, the city of water.

Hot Spring & Bath Information

Shimabara Onsen

TypeNatural Hot Spring

A colorless, transparent hot spring that wells up from beneath Shimabara, the city of water. It is known for its gentle feel on the skin, and its traditional reputation for helping with cuts and burns. Both the New Wing panoramic bath and the Main Building therapeutic bathhouse offer this spring in indoor and outdoor baths. The outdoor baths facing the Ariake Sea provide a luxurious environment where the scent of the tide mixes with steam. The warmth lasts after bathing and leaves skin feeling smooth.

Highly Carbonated Spring

TypeNatural Hot Spring

A rare natural highly carbonated spring representing Shimabara. It features a gas concentration many times higher than typical artificial carbonated baths, so fine bubbles cling to the skin on contact. Because the source temperature is low, the baths are maintained in a skin-neutral temperature range that allows long, leisurely soaks. You can enjoy it in three indoor pools and a tub bath in the Main Building therapeutic bathhouse, as well as in both indoor and outdoor baths in the New Wing panoramic bath. This celebrated spring is among Kyushu’s finest, and it is valued for promoting circulation and relieving fatigue.
