Nagasaki Hirado City
A panoramic open-air bath overlooking the sea of Hirado, and a natural onsen that is good for the skin
Oedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Ranpu is an onsen resort hotel in Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture. It stands on the seashore at Senrigahama, and its main bathhouse alternates between men and women. From a tatami-floored indoor bath with a high ceiling and light pouring in through skylights, the baths lead on to a spacious open-air bath surrounded by trees and, up a staircase inside the bathhouse, to a panoramic open-air bath looking out over the sea of Kujukushima. The water is a natural sodium bicarbonate spring; it contains baking soda and is said to be a skin-beautifying water that works like a natural cleanser. The main bathhouse also has a sauna and a cold plunge. After the bath, you can relax in the sea breeze at the foot bath facing the ocean, in a hammock or on the wooden terrace. With the Oedo Three-Star Buffet, the best in the group, as well as a kids’ park and a manga corner, even day visitors can enjoy a whole day here.

A dry sauna wrapped in a calm wooden atmosphere. In its solid heat, you turn quietly inward and take your time working up a sweat. Once the body is thoroughly warmed, head to the tap-water cold plunge set right beside it, which draws the heat away crisply and leaves you refreshed. To finish, move to the open-air area and enjoy cooling off in the open air in the sea breeze. Together they make a sequence that leads to a pleasant, refreshing break.
