About Kunitachi Onsen Yurakuno Sato

"Kunitachi Onsen Yurakuno Sato" is a day-use hot spring facility in Kunitachi City, Tokyo. In the open-air area overlooking the Tama River, the baths are lined up so that when you sink into the water, an unobstructed sky spreads out before you, and on clear days the silhouette of Mount Fuji emerges in the distance. The sodium chloride spring rising from underground is gentle on the skin, and it continues to hold its warmth even after you leave the bath. In one corner of the open-air area, you can enjoy a free-flowing bath where the source water is heated and poured in as is. The indoor baths include a high-concentration carbonated spring with fine bubbles that cling to the skin, a high-temperature sauna that draws out a good sweat, and a salt sauna that polishes the skin. After cooling down in the cold plunge bath, you'll want to take a deep breath in the open-air area where the river breeze flows through. After your bath, there is time to relax in the resting area lined with reclining chairs, manga in hand, and drift off into a mellow daze.

Hot SpringONSEN

Natural hot spring

A natural hot spring fed into both the open-air baths and the indoor baths overlooking the Tama River. The sodium chloride spring drawn from underground feels smooth and gentle the moment it touches the skin, transferring heat in a wrapping embrace. In one corner of the open-air area, there is a free-flowing bath where source water is heated and poured in as is, allowing you to savor the freshness of the spring just as it is. Because the salt content forms a thin film that traps heat, the warmth lingers long after you leave the bath.

High-concentration carbonated spring

A high-concentration carbonated spring set in the indoor bath. When you sit quietly in the lukewarm water, countless fine bubbles cling to your skin, and before long your whole body takes on a faint rosy hue. Even though the water does not feel hot, warmth rises from within, and the sensation of blood flowing all the way to your fingertips is deeply comforting. The mildly acidic water tightens the pores, guiding you into deeper relaxation the longer you soak.

SaunaSAUNA

High-temperature sauna

A high-temperature sauna where dry heat slowly settles into the skin and reaches deep into the body. After sitting down for a while, beads of sweat begin to appear on your back, and the tension of daily life seems to peel away layer by layer. As you focus only on your breathing in the quiet room, your stiff body gradually loosens, and even your mind starts to feel lighter. Working up a full sweat here is the starting point for your bath-hopping journey.

02SAUNA

Salt sauna

Men'sWomen's

A salt sauna where you place the provided massage salt on your skin and enjoy the sensation of it melting away with your sweat. Wrapped in gentle heat and a moist atmosphere, the salt slowly draws out moisture and smooths the surface of your skin. The very time spent waiting for the grains to dissolve is pleasant, and after rinsing off, your skin feels astonishingly sleek. It is a room where you can enjoy a gentler kind of sweating, different from the high-temperature sauna.

Cold BathCOLD BATH

Cold plunge bath

A cold plunge bath that quietly calms the heat stirred up by the sauna. As you lower yourself in little by little, the flushing begins to fade, and a sense spreads across your skin as if a clear, crisp film were settling on the surface. Once the cold has settled, step out into the open-air area and let the breeze that has crossed the Tama River brush against your wet skin. The time spent leaning back in a chair and looking up at the sky is what makes this facility truly special.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
