About Uesugi no Oyado Gotenzeki

"Uesugi no Oyado Gotenzeki" is a hot spring inn in Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture. A long-established inn with over 380 years of history, it once served as a villa of the Uesugi clan. Guests can enjoy Akayu’s famous hot springs every day with a daily rotation of 12 different baths, including a uniquely carved open-air bath made from one of Japan’s largest stones and a source-fed tub bath. The West Bath also features a gentle mist sauna with the natural monument Hokutolite installed beneath the floor. In the private bath "Goten no Yu," you can have the source-fed hot spring all to yourself and enjoy a luxurious stay steeped in history and famous waters, feeling like a lord.

Large Public Bath / Large Open-Air Bath

A spacious indoor bath and an open, expansive open-air bath. With abundant spring water and fresh water replaced daily, you can always enjoy clean, freshly drawn natural hot spring water. This sulfur spring with salinity warms you to the core, promotes circulation, and gently eases everyday fatigue and muscle pain. The baths for men and women switch between morning and evening, so you can fully enjoy Akayu’s famous waters in spacious tubs with different atmospheres.

Source-Fed Open-Air Bath

Baths that use fresh spring water exactly as it comes from the source, such as the semi-open-air "Source-Fed Tub Bath" and unique baths like "Ryujin no Yu" and "Raw Stone Bath," each carved from a large andesite boulder. Leaning back in the stone bath and soaking in the fresh hot spring water overflowing endlessly is an exceptional experience. The faint scent of sulfur and the soft, smooth feel of the water are distinctive, and its high heat-retention effect keeps you warmly comfortable for a long time even after you get out.

Private Bath Goten no Yu

A luxurious private bath where you can enjoy Akayu Onsen’s famous waters all to yourself, feeling like a lord. While gazing at a charming one-tsubo garden, you can soak in a bathtub where fresh spring water flows continuously and overflows abundantly. A mist sauna attached to the large public bath "West Bath." This steam bath is lavishly equipped with Hokutolite, a natural monument known from Taiwan and Tamagawa Onsen in Akita Prefecture, installed beneath the floor, and offers potential radium-related benefits. The room is set to a mild temperature rather than being overly hot, so you can slowly work up a sweat while wrapped in gentle steam and refresh both body and mind from deep within without placing undue strain on your body.
