Takamiya Mogamigawa Bettei Beni is an onsen inn in Tozawa, Yamagata Prefecture. From all around the inn you can take in the majestic Mogami River, for a stay far from the everyday, as if held in the embrace of nature. Its celebrated water, Kusanagi Onsen, a cold simple sulfur spring that first welled up in 1879 (Meiji 12), can be enjoyed to your heart’s content in an indoor bath built of hinoki and fragrant with wood, and in an open-air bath so close to the river that you could almost reach out and touch the water. It is a blissful hideaway where you feel the river breeze of each season and let go of everyday fatigue, wrapped in stillness.
