About Towada Hotel

"Towada Hotel" is a historic hotel located in Kosaka Town, Akita Prefecture. Its main building, Akita Cedar Hall, was built in the early Showa period by master temple carpenters and is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The large public baths on the second floor of the annex, Aoba no Yu and Momiji no Yu, both feature open-air baths with sweeping panoramic lake views. Guests can enjoy a special, out-of-the-ordinary experience in the spacious indoor baths and open-air baths filled with pristine mountain spring water flowing into Lake Towada. The hotel also offers a luxurious scenic sauna where you can immerse yourself in the view of Lake Towada through the window.

BathBATH

Large Public Bath Aoba no Yu / Momiji no Yu

A beautiful large public bath on the second floor of the annex, using clear mountain spring water that flows into Lake Towada (men: Aoba no Yu, women: Momiji no Yu). From the signature open-air bath, you can take in an overwhelming panoramic view of Lake Towada and the surrounding mountain range, whose appearance changes dramatically throughout the day. With the crisp air and the pleasant wind blowing down from Mt. Hakkoda, you can enjoy an extraordinary bath-time experience with a luxurious sense of floating, as if becoming one with nature. (This is not a hot spring.)

SaunaSAUNA

01SAUNA

Scenic Sauna

Men'sWomen's

A full-fledged dry sauna in the public bath area, pleasantly scented with hinoki cypress. There is no TV in the room, only a 5-minute sand timer, creating a quiet and serene space. Its greatest feature is the large window inside the sauna, through which you can look out over magnificent Lake Towada and the deep green trees surrounding it. You can lose yourself in nature and enjoy an exceptional sweating experience at a relaxed pace amid the dry, comfortable heat. (The sauna is open only in the evening and at night.)

Flow-through

Cold Plunge Bath

Men'sWomen's

A luxurious flowing cold plunge bath in the bathhouse, filled with rich mountain spring water from the Lake Towada area. It is designed with a shallow depth, so you can recline and fully stretch out while soaking. The water temperature is kept mild, making it easy even for those who do not like very cold cold plunge baths to stay in for a long time and feel the smooth, clear water against their skin.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
