Awaji International Hotel The Sunplaza is an onsen inn in Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture. All rooms offer spectacular ocean views, and guests can enjoy the natural waters of the renowned Sumoto Onsen. The grounds feature a Finnish-style barrel sauna available for private use as a whole, as well as one of the largest nature saunas in the Kansai region. After the sauna, guests can cool off in a cold plunge whose temperature is controlled by a chiller, then enjoy time cooling off in the open air as they feel the sea breeze. The main bathhouse also has separate saunas for men and women, offering a variety of sauna experiences. There are also private baths with distinct atmospheres and in-room baths fed by the onsen, where guests can enjoy a private moment of relaxation while listening to the sound of the waves.
Hot SpringONSEN
Main Bathhouse
A spacious main bathhouse filled with the celebrated waters of Sumoto Onsen. In the rustic open-air bath, with its large rocks, you can take your time soaking while feeling the pleasant breeze. There is also a hot-water cascade and a bath with massage jets, where you can stretch out and ease away the day’s fatigue.
Panoramic Main Bathhouse
A spectacular panoramic main bathhouse with a 180-degree view of the Kitan Strait. It uses Uruoi-no-Yu, a new source that began flowing in 2018, known for its gentle, alkaline waters. Enjoy a relaxing soak with a wonderful sense of openness as the sea breeze flows through the wide-open windows. ※ Hours Men: 5:30–8:30 / Women: 15:00–22:00 (bathing times alternate between men and women)
Private Baths
Three private baths, each with its own distinct atmosphere, where you can enjoy spectacular views all to yourself. Shinonome is especially inviting for the scent of hinoki and the blue sea and sky visible through its large window. Soak in the gentle waters of Uruoi-no-Yu, the new source, and enjoy a luxurious, uninterrupted moment as you listen to the sound of the waves. ※ Hours 15:00–23:25 (last entry from 22:40)
In-Room Bath
A private indoor onsen bath in select rooms on the Nami no Oto floor. Enjoy the renowned waters of Sumoto Onsen whenever and for as long as you like, in a private space just for you. Take in the calm sea beyond the window as you sink into exceptional comfort.
Main BathSauna
Dry Sauna
A classic dry sauna adjoining the men’s main bathhouse. Enjoy its substantial heat, then refresh body and mind at your own pace with a soak in the spacious onsen bath.
Mist Sauna
A traditional Japanese kamaburo-style mist sauna in the women’s main bathhouse. Gentle steam fills the room, warming you as it helps keep your hair and skin from drying out. With less of the breathlessness associated with intense heat, it offers a comfortable way to relax even if you find typical sauna temperatures too hot.

Nature Sauna
One of the largest nature saunas in the Kansai region, enjoyed in swimwear. Its distinctive low-temperature, high-humidity setting contrasts with the high-temperature, low-humidity conditions of a dry sauna. You can also enjoy löyly by pouring water over the heated sauna stones. It lets you sweat gently and comfortably while minimizing damage to your hair and skin. ※ Hours: 15:00–22:00 (mixed bathing)
Barrel Sauna
A private sauna reserved as a whole, with a barrel design that allows heat and steam to circulate evenly. The interior, made with Finnish pine, is filled with the warmth and fragrance of wood. Steam from the löyly you pour yourself quickly raises the perceived temperature, creating a deeply immersive experience. ※ Hours: 15:00–22:00 (mixed bathing)

Outdoor Cold Plunge
An outdoor cold plunge. A chiller keeps the water consistently cold year-round, quickly pulling the heat from your body after the sauna. After your plunge, take a seat on the bench just in front and surrender to cooling off in the open air as a refreshing sea breeze washes over you.
