"Naruko Onsen Ryokan Sugawara" is a long-established hot spring ryokan founded in the Taisho era, located in the Naruko Onsen area of Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture. It owns 3 private hot spring sources on the premises, all used as natural free-flowing hot spring water, so guests can enjoy a luxurious tour of the baths. Inside the large public bath is a nationally rare "gensen sauna" that uses only the heat of a hot spring source at nearly 100 degrees. Warm hot spring mist is sprayed from the ceiling every 15 minutes, creating high humidity and a pleasantly steamy atmosphere that encourages remarkable sweating deep from within the body. There is also a private Finnish-style sauna equipped with a wood stove, allowing guests to quietly savor superb hot spring bathing and sauna sessions.
A spacious large public bath where you can luxuriate in the private hot spring source as natural free-flowing hot spring water. The clear, colorless alkaline hot spring with a smooth feel gently envelops your body. Stretch out your arms and legs and soak at your leisure to enjoy an exceptional sense of relaxation as everyday fatigue and tension slowly melt away.
An open-air bath where you can enjoy bathing while feeling the beautiful seasonal nature of Naruko. You can luxuriate in a pure bicarbonate spring, famous as a beauty bath for its silky texture, as natural free-flowing hot spring water. It is said to help emulsify and wash away unnecessary dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling moist and smooth after bathing.
A private bath where you can have exclusive use of fresh famous hot spring water from a natural free-flowing source in a private setting. If available, it can be used freely at any time without a reservation. Several tubs with different atmospheres are provided, allowing you to enjoy a quiet and luxurious tour of the baths without worrying about being seen by others.
A cypress-lined sauna installed in the large public bath, and a nationally rare one that uses only hot spring heat. The heat from the nearly 100-degree private hot spring source is circulated through the room, and hot spring mist is additionally sprayed from the ceiling every 15 minutes, creating overwhelming humidity and a comfortably steamy atmosphere. There is no stuffiness, and you can work up an astonishing amount of sweat slowly and deeply from within the body.
A cold plunge bath set directly in front of the gensen sauna room in the large public bath. It is designed so that fresh water is automatically supplied when the water level drops, gently cooling down your heated body with a pleasantly refreshing chill. Since there is a free-flowing hot spring tub right next to it, you can enjoy a seamless hot-and-cold alternating bath experience not only after the sauna, but also with the hot spring itself.
The large public bath is available 24 hours a day for overnight guests. Day-use bathing is available from 10:30 to 17:00 (reception closes at 16:00). The private sauna (reservation required) is available from 10:00 to 17:00.
