About Onjuku Yuinosho
"Onjuku Yuinosho" is a hot spring ryokan in Shirakawa Village, Ono District, Gifu Prefecture. It stands in a mountain hamlet not far from the gassho-style village of Shirakawa-go, a World Heritage site, and inside the building, old wooden beams actually used in gassho-style houses have been relocated, quietly preserving memories of a snowy land. The natural hot spring, a sodium chloride spring, has a gentle feel on the skin, and its warmth lingers long after you get out. The gender-separated public baths feature a spacious indoor bath and open-air bath, plus a pot bath, reclining bath, cascade bath, dry sauna, and cold plunge bath, letting you spend your time moving from one bath to the next. Two private baths with different atmospheres, one made of cypress and the other of ceramic, can be used freely without a reservation, giving you time undisturbed by anyone. Ice cream in the post-bath lounge, late-night noodles, colorful yukata selection, and kaiseki meals showcasing Hida’s bounty all add color to the trip.

A public bath provided separately for men and women. The natural sodium chloride hot spring feels gentle on the skin, and even after you get out, a soft warmth remains deep in the body. From the spacious indoor bath, stepping out to the open-air bath reveals mountain-village scenery that reflects the changing seasons, rippling across the water’s surface, while in winter the bath is wrapped in white stillness. There are also pot baths, reclining baths, and cascade baths, allowing you to spend a long time moving from one bath to the next.

Two private baths with different atmospheres, one made of cypress and the other of ceramic. Both are open-air baths, and once you close the door, you can have the natural hot spring all to yourself to your heart’s content. No reservation is needed, and the lamp at the entrance lets you know when one is available, so you can drop in whenever the mood strikes. They are open both day and night, and a moment spent gazing at the sky beyond the steam in the quiet of late night or in the pale light of early morning is especially memorable. You can enjoy bathing without worrying about anyone else, just for yourselves.

A sauna wrapped in the warmth of wood where you can enjoy self-löyly and bathe in dense heat that contrasts with the cold air outside. The dry heat slowly reaches deep into the skin, and as you steady your breathing, a stiffened body gradually loosens. The cold plunge bath right nearby quietly takes in the heated skin and draws away the lingering warmth. If you step out to the open-air bath that reflects the changing seasons, a moment comes when you can surrender yourself to the clear mountain air and deep silence.
