About Kyukamura Okumusashi

"Kyukamura Okumusashi" is a resort hotel in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture. It stands deep in the forest and by the clear waters of the Komagawa River, with scenery that seems impossible to imagine just about 70 minutes from central Tokyo by train, in the heart of Okumusashi Prefectural Natural Park. The large bath area consists of a garden-style open-air bath made with Japanese cypress from local Nishikawa lumber and an indoor bath featuring cypress-patterned walls and granite. You can soak while surrounded by sunlight filtering through the trees and the calls of wild birds. It also has a sauna and cold plunge bath, and after bathing you can relax in the free rest area. There is also a buffet dining room, lounge, theater room, and a kids' corner with wooden educational play materials, making it an inn where you can combine your stay with river play and hiking. Day-use bathing is also available.

BathBATH

Large Bath Area

A男女 separate large bath area consisting of a garden-style open-air bath surrounded by trees and an indoor bath bathed in sunlight filtering through the trees. The open-air area features single-person tubs made with Japanese cypress from local Nishikawa lumber, allowing you to sink into the water surrounded by forest air and the sounds of wild birds. The indoor bath is finished with cypress-patterned walls and granite, and the washing area is spacious. The official information does not list a spring quality, so it is not a natural hot spring, but you can soak while looking up at the starry sky at night. A free rest area is available after bathing.

SaunaSAUNA

01SAUNA

Sauna

Men'sWomen's

A sauna attached to the large bath area. The stillness of the inn, embraced by the forests of Okumusashi, flows into the room itself, letting you enjoy the time spent sitting quietly in the heat. Because this inn stands in the mountains, it does not have the hurried feel of a city facility, and you can slowly work up a good sweat while listening only to your own breathing. Guests staying overnight can use it from daytime until night, making it ideal both for warming your body again after hiking or river play and for quietly ending the day after dinner.

Cold BathCOLD BATH

01COLD BATH

Cold Plunge Bath

Men'sWomen's

A cold plunge bath attached to the indoor bath. After warming your body all the way through in the sauna, sinking into it gently lets the heat fade away. There are no special effects, but in the bright bathhouse with sunlight filtering through the trees, you can calmly alternate between heat and cold. Just beyond it spreads a garden-style open-air bath surrounded by trees, and taking a moment to steady your breathing while feeling the mountain breeze at the edge of the tub is a luxury unique to a mountain inn.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
