About Kyukamura Minami-Aso

Kyukamura Minami-Aso is an onsen hotel in Takamori, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It stands on the highlands of Aso-Kuju National Park, and from all around the building you can see the ridgelines of the Five Peaks of Aso. Its pride is the open-air bath that opens onto that grand panorama. With a ceramic urn bath as well, it lets you soak while gazing at mountainsides covered in green by day and a sky thick with stars by night. The water is a natural alkaline simple spring, prized for its soft feel that leaves the skin smooth. The main bathhouse also has a sauna, and the highland air you breathe in after working up a sweat feels wonderful. Day-visit bathing is also available, so you can stop by in the middle of a trip around Aso.

Separate main bathhouses for men and women, facing the Five Peaks of Aso head-on. Each has an indoor bath and an open-air bath opening wide toward the mountains, and the open-air area also has a ceramic urn bath. The water is a natural alkaline simple spring, prized for its soft feel that leaves the skin smooth. It is also said to be good for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain and sensitivity to cold. Time spent sinking into the water while gazing at green mountainsides in the highland breeze by day and a sky thick with stars by night quietly eases away the fatigue of travel.

A sauna attached to the main bathhouse. The heat works its way gently deep inside, and a stiff body slowly loosens. In this quiet room without any showy extras, you can focus simply on working up a sweat. Open from daytime until late at night, it lets you drop in whenever you like, before dinner or before bed.
