About Kyukamura Takeno-kaigan

Kyukamura Takeno-kaigan is a seaside resort hotel in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture. It stands on high ground about 70 m (230 ft) above sea level, overlooking a beautiful cove in San’in Kaigan National Park, and has natural onsen water from its own source. From the main bathhouse, with its indoor bath, open-air bath and sauna, you look out over the Nekozaki Peninsula at Hyogo’s northernmost tip and the vast Sea of Japan, and on nights from summer into autumn the lights of fishing boats glow offshore. The smooth water, a calcium-sodium chloride-sulfate spring, gently enfolds a body chilled by the sea breeze. There is a dining room serving seafood from the Sea of Japan, a terrace where the sea wind blows through, and a campground, and day visitors are welcome to bathe.

A main bathhouse, separate for men and women, where you can enjoy natural onsen water from its own source in both an indoor bath and an open-air bath. The water is a calcium-sodium chloride-sulfate spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, low-temperature), and its smooth, silky feel on the skin eases the fatigue of travel. Sink into the open-air bath and the beautiful cove and the Nekozaki Peninsula at Hyogo’s northernmost tip fill your view, and on nights from summer into autumn the lights of fishing boats glow offshore. It is listed as effective for cuts, sensitivity to cold and dry skin, and it is water that leaves warmth deep in the body.

A sauna set in one corner of the main bathhouse, which has both an indoor bath and an open-air bath. In the quiet you would expect of an inn on high ground by the sea, you can savor the time itself spent settling in and waiting for the sweat to come. Even a body exposed to the sea wind warms to the core as you sit unhurried. Overnight guests can use it twice, at night and in the early morning, and being able to make your way around the sauna and baths at your own pace, free from the clock, is a luxury only a stay can offer.
