Fukuoka Fukuoka City
Hakata's world-class extreme sauna experience
Wellbe Fukuoka is a sauna & capsule hotel located in Gion-machi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, renowned as the sacred ground of Fukuoka sauna culture. The men's area features six types of saunas including a Finnish sauna, Forest Sauna, Karafuro, herbal steam bath, Sauna Theater Fukuoka and more, alongside one of Japan's top-tier Gursin extreme cold plunge baths (about 5°C) and an ice sauna below -25°C that astonish visitors of both sexes.

A spacious Finnish sauna that serves as the face of Wellbe Fukuoka. A convection sauna stove maintains a stable high temperature, and an automatic löyly that activates roughly every 7 minutes brings waves of steam. The dim, TV-free interior plays healing background music, and the design is thoroughly committed to creating an environment where you can fully focus on totonou.

Wellbe Fukuoka's largest signature sauna. This "unit sauna" uniquely houses a separately installed mild cold plunge bath inside the sauna room, offering a one-of-a-kind experience in Japan. The sauna entrance and cold plunge entrance are separated by independent doors, allowing you to enter the cold plunge while your face continues to be bathed in hot sauna löyly, producing a new sensation where the body is cold but breathing is hot.

A single-person private-room sauna modeled after the bathing hall of Nara's Hokke-ji, which was built at the initiative of Empress Kōmyō in the Tenpyō period. In a compact Japanese-style space of about 1.5 tatami mats with zabuton floor cushions, you can perform self löyly in dim lighting and concentrate on meditation. This philosophical design revives Japan's traditional steam-bath culture in a modern sauna and is highly regarded as a spiritual experience beyond ordinary saunas. It is a unique space where you can face yourself while controlling the heat with self löyly.

Wellbe's famous Gursin cold plunge bath boasts one of Japan's lowest temperatures. Using soft water at about 5°C, its extreme chill delivers an impact so sharp it can feel painful the moment you enter. The design features ticket-gate-like steps that make entry easier, and many say 10–20 seconds is the limit for immersion. With a water depth of 80–110 cm, you can fully submerge your body.

A mild cold plunge bath independently installed inside the Forest Sauna room. This globally rare unit design allows you to enter the cold plunge while remaining inside the sauna, so your face continues to be bathed in sauna heat while your body is cooled. The disparity between a cold body and hot breathing creates a distinctive totonou sensation. With a shallow depth of 40–60 cm, you can cool your whole body while relaxing, and by alternating with the extreme cold plunge you can choose the cooldown intensity that suits you.
