FURO & SAUNA THE VANISH is a bathhouse in Hisayama, Kasuya District, Fukuoka Prefecture. A beautiful, somehow nostalgic main bathhouse covered in more than 80 kinds of tile. On the walls, endearing paintings of dogs by Maruyama Okyo and Kamisaka Sekka are rendered as tile art, a delight to the eye. The open-air area also has a regular bath and a lukewarm bath, where you can soak at leisure to your heart’s content, breathing in the outdoor air deeply.

Wood-Fired Sauna
A spacious, large wooden sauna house standing in the open-air area. Gentle yet powerful heat from three linked wood-burning stoves fills the room pleasantly. You can pour löyly yourself, and the rich rising steam and the faint crackle of burning wood stir all five senses, drawing you into deep immersion. Wrapped in the scent of wood, you can enjoy a blissful detox as you warm slowly to the core.

Cold Plunge
A roomy cold plunge in the open-air space. It uses clear natural groundwater nurtured by Hisayama’s rich nature, and the cold gently yet crisply pulls the flushed body taut. After the pleasant chill, you can move smoothly on to cooling off in the open air, and feeling the fresh breeze of the great outdoors, you are led to the finest totonou (a state of deep relaxation).
