About Hotel Granmirage

A sauna-focused spa on the top floor of Hotel Granmirage in Uozu City, Toyama Prefecture. Under the direction of Mikie Sasano, guests can enjoy the mountain-side bath with views of the Tateyama mountain range and the sea-side bath overlooking Toyama Bay on a rotating daily schedule. It features the scenic sauna, equipped with an auto-löyly system that activates several times every hour, and the meditation sauna, where you can turn inward in a dim, quiet setting. It also offers an exceptional cold plunge bath with free-flowing pristine spring water from the Tateyama mountain system, a thermoneutral bath, and a luxurious totonou experience in the lounge.

BathBATH

Infinity Sky Open-Air Bath

A sky-high open-air bath designed to extend outward from the top floor of the hotel, using 100% Tateyama spring water. On the mountain side, you can experience the breathtaking drama of nature with 'Tateyama Mountain Range Sunrise,' while on the sea side, 'Toyama Bay Sunset' lets you savor it with all five senses depending on the time of day. It even features an infinity reclining bath that makes the mountains or sea feel as if they are seamlessly connected to the large bath. A supreme healing space unfolds as you float your body in the water while feeling the refreshing highland breeze.

Art Tile Indoor Bath

A warm indoor bath with a vibrant, stylish contemporary artwork painted across the entire wall. The carefully refined design, supervised by Mikie Sasano, the daughter of Shikiji, brings visual relaxation right down to the smallest details. While soaking in the soft water made with plenty of Tateyama mountain spring water, you can spend an elegant moment gazing at the art and unwinding both body and mind.

SaunaSAUNA

01SAUNA

Scenic Sauna

Men'sWomen's

A sauna on the top floor, 40 meters above ground, with a superb panorama. From the mountain-side bath, you can take in the majestic Tateyama mountain range, and from the sea-side bath, a sweeping view of the blue Toyama Bay and Noto Peninsula. Two high-spec Harvia stoves are installed, and regular auto-löyly fills the room with heat and high humidity. In this open, expansive space, it is a luxury to enjoy plenty of sweating along with the spectacular view.

02SAUNA

Meditation Sauna

Men'sWomen's

In contrast to the scenic sauna, this is a dim, tranquil sauna with the lights turned down. It pairs a main Harvia stove with a powerful Metos auxiliary stove, and healing music plays softly in a space without a TV. Regular auto-löyly activates, letting you feel the pleasant heat of the steam while simply and purely facing yourself. With deep meditation and relaxation, it is a setting that sauna enthusiasts will love.

Cold BathCOLD BATH

01COLD BATH

Tateyama Spring Water Cold Bath

Men'sWomen's

Uses fresh underground spring water nurtured by the snowmelt of the Tateyama mountain range in the Northern Alps. Water can also be drunk directly from a dedicated faucet. The water quality is astonishingly clear, with a gentle, mellow softness that clings to the skin. A chiller keeps it at the ideal temperature at all times, comfortably enveloping a body that has been warmed by the sauna. With beautiful lighting effects shimmering on the surface, you can enjoy a blissful cooldown.

02COLD BATH

Thermoneutral Bath

Men'sWomen's

A cold bath kept at a temperature close to human body temperature, neither too cold nor too hot. It uses high-quality natural underground water from the Tateyama mountain range, and the water can also be drunk from the faucet. When you sink into it, you feel a strange sensation of floating, as if you are being wrapped in hot water and melting away. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system and functions as a luxurious totonou-supporting feature that lets you relax gradually without straining the body.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
