Tokyo Shibuya City
Located in Sakuragaoka-cho, Shibuya-ku, Shibuya SAUNAS is an authentic sauna facility specializing in 'totonou' (state of perfect relaxation) despite being in the city center. It operates two areas, 'WOODS' on the west side and 'LÄMPI' on the east side, alternating between men and women daily, and features nine diverse sauna rooms and four cold plunge baths. As indicated by the Finnish names of the rooms, the design evokes forests and ponds, incorporating natural light and outdoor air bath spaces. Each sauna offers self-löyly and aufguss, with a focus on aroma, acoustics, and the texture of wood. The cold plunge baths are uniquely designed in depth and shape, providing intense cooling when fully immersed. The facility also includes workspaces and a restaurant, making it a city-style complex where you can enjoy not only saunas but also work, rest, and stay.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
