Kyoto Kyoto City
Gion Kyoto's acclaimed panoramic-view sauna
Sauna & Capsule Hotel Ruma Plaza is a men-only sauna and capsule hotel located in Gion, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The facility features three distinct saunas: an IKI stove–equipped löyly sauna, a METOS Finnish sauna, and a salt sauna finished with Shigaraki pottery tiles. Staff hold löyly sessions three times daily. There are three types of cold plunge baths including an ultra-cold 14℃ plunge, plus a rooftop microbubble bath and an observation bath with panoramic views over Kyoto City. The property also offers a capsule hotel, breakfast buffet, relaxation treatments, and a comics/manga space.

A multifunctional large bathtub in the 6th-floor bathing area combining an electrical bath and a jet bath. The jet bath mixes warm water and air to create bubbling jets that produce micro-vibrations; the thermal effect helps boost metabolism. The electrical bath delivers gentle low-frequency electrical stimulation that helps relieve stiff shoulders and fatigue. This indoor main bathtub is a relaxing spot where you can unwind while watching a large-screen TV.

A bathtub that makes abundant use of Shigaraki pottery tiles. The characteristic smooth texture and high heat retention of Shigaraki ware warm the body thoroughly, and the non-slip tile surface provides reassurance. The tactile quality and warmth of the ceramics offer a refined bathing experience distinct from other tubs. Located in the same 7th-floor open-air area as the salt sauna and Finnish sauna, it naturally pairs well with sauna use.

A microbubble bath where millions of fine bubbles gush from Shigaraki ceramic panels. The tiny bubbles gently massage the whole body while adsorbing dirt from pores, making the water feel milder on the skin. When night falls, the area is lit up so you can enjoy a fantastical space of light and bubbles under Gion's night sky. The bath is also close to the rooftop outdoor resting area, allowing it to be naturally incorporated into the totunou cycle.

The main sauna located in the 6th-floor bathing area. A double stove combining an IKI electric stone stove and a far-infrared gas stove radiates heat 360 degrees, warming the space evenly down to the feet. An automatic löyly system activates every 20 minutes to maintain high humidity, and staff deliver daily aroma water löyly and heat waves using a handheld heat-wave device. The spacious room, which includes a TV and even areas to lie down, offers the luxurious experience of receiving steam over your whole body while reclining. Ranked No.1 in Kyoto Prefecture on Sauna Ikitai, this room serves as the engine room of the facility's renowned panoramic sauna.

A newly installed Finnish-style sauna in the 7th-floor open-air area. With the METOS ZIEL stove, guests can pour water at their own pace to control the room's humidity and the amount of steam. Dark, black-toned, low lighting enhances immersion, allowing you to focus on the heat in a quiet space without a TV. The proximity to the rooftop outdoor resting area and the three cold plunge baths creates a smooth flow for the totunou cycle, offering a contrasting, inward-focused sweating experience compared with the more performative löyly sauna.

A salt sauna installed in the 7th-floor open-air area. Benches are finished with Shigaraki pottery tiles, and guests take natural salt sourced from the Sea of Japan at the outer double-door before entering. In a mildly warm setting, you apply the salt over your body to use osmotic pressure to encourage the release of sebum and impurities. Once the salt dissolves with sweat, massaging your entire body leaves the skin feeling smooth after bathing.

The main cold plunge bath located in the 6th-floor bathing area. It allows a calm cooldown immediately after the löyly sauna. With a water depth of 60–80 cm, it's easy to fully submerge, and a gentle current inside the tub gives a soft feel against the skin. Positioned just before the stairs to the rooftop, movement from the cold plunge to the outdoor resting area is smooth, creating a well-arranged flow for reaching a state of perfect relaxation (totonou).

An ultra-cold type of cold plunge located in the 7th-floor open-air area. The 14℃ water delivers a piercingly sharp cold sensation, and it is especially effective when taking a large temperature gap from the medium-temperature zones of the Finnish sauna or salt sauna. Although the exact temperature varies slightly with outdoor conditions, you can experience strong cold stimulation year-round. Installed in an area where the cold water and outdoor resting space are integrated, it is also ideal for alternating cold plunges.

A cold plunge bath placed alongside the ultra-cold plunge in the 7th-floor open-air area. With a slightly warmer setting of 20℃, it is a choice for those who want to cool their body gently for a longer time or who find the ultra-cold plunge too intense. The pair of plunges is often used for alternating cold plunges with the 14℃ bath, allowing guests to switch between the two according to their condition and mood.
