About Kyoto Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho

"Kyoto Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho" is a hot spring ryokan in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Although it enjoys a prime location just a short walk from Hankyu Arashiyama Station, an alley for bathing around runs through the building, and every time you open a door, a different style of bathhouse appears in succession. In the gender-separated large public baths, the stone-lined indoor bath is filled with natural Arashiyama Onsen, while the open-air rock bath offers medicinal bath water. A dry sauna is also available, letting you spend time moving back and forth between hot water and heat. Along the alley, five private baths each with a different atmosphere line up one after another: a steam-filled bath, a cypress-scented bath, and open-air baths surrounded by bamboo among them. All are free, require no reservation, and can be enjoyed in complete privacy. There is also a reading corner, a tea room, and a yukata corner, and at night a free late-night ramen service brings the day to a close.

Hot SpringONSEN

Large public bath

The indoor stone bath is filled with natural Arashiyama Onsen. This simple alkaline spring is gentle and low in irritation, softly enveloping the skin and delivering warmth deep into the body. Beyond the sliding door, an open-air rock bath awaits, filled with medicinal bath water. Rest your neck along the stone edge and surrender yourself to the greenery lit by the lamps and the night air, and the fatigue of the day will quietly melt away.

Private bath

Five private baths with different atmospheres line the bathing alley. A steam-filled bath, a round barrel bath, an indoor bath wrapped in the scent of cypress, a brick-built open-air bath, an open-air bath surrounded by bamboo, and a white stone open-air bath all change the scenery every time you open a door. No reservation is needed, and if the light is off, you can simply go in, with no additional charge. The water is heated water, but the luxury of having the bath entirely to yourself is something unique to this inn.

Open-air bath in guest room

Guest rooms with an open-air bath come with a private cypress-lined tub. You can soak whenever the mood strikes. Spending time with your arms resting on the cypress edge, breathing in the scent of wood and the outdoor air, is a quiet luxury for just two. Some rooms also feature a semi open-air bath with the fragrance of cypress, and although the water is heated, the sense of openness is exceptional.

SaunaSAUNA

Dry sauna

A dry sauna located in each of the gender-separated large public baths. When you step into the quiet room filled with dry heat, your shoulders loosen and a gentle sweat begins to emerge. In the calm of the room, the heaviness in your legs from walking around Kyoto slowly melts away. As it is closed from late night until early morning, it is well suited to working up a sweat at dusk or to start the morning refreshed.
