About Sukkama Genji no Yu

"Sukkama Genji no Yu" is a day-use hot spring facility in Seika Town, Soraku District, Kyoto Prefecture. It is a modern town bathhouse that combines Sukkama, a Korean traditional charcoal kiln sauna said to be the first of its kind in Japan, with natural hot springs. With a wide range of ways to warm up, including the powerful heat of Sukkama using the residual heat of konara oak, an authentic garden sauna in the bath area, and a mildly alkaline simple spring renowned for its excellent skin-beautifying effects, it offers a rich variety of thermal experiences. The outdoor bathing area, where you can gaze out over a beautiful Japanese garden with pines and bamboo groves, has excellent circulation, delivering an ultimate state of totonou and deep relaxation for both body and mind.

Natural Hot Spring Rock Bath (Skin-Beautifying Bath)

An outdoor rock bath of natural hot spring water, surrounded by a beautiful Japanese garden with a single pine tree and bamboo groves swaying in the breeze. The water is a mildly alkaline simple spring with a slightly high pH, and it is praised as a skin-beautifying bath because it removes dead skin cells and leaves the skin smooth and silky. With its gentle spring quality that is easy on the skin, it is a famous hot spring where you can linger for as long as you like while admiring the beautiful greenery.

High-Carbonation Spring

The main indoor bath, maintained at a lukewarm temperature and infused with an extremely high concentration of carbon dioxide gas. As tiny bubbles are absorbed through the skin, blood vessels widen, dramatically improving circulation and activating metabolism. With less strain on the heart and a gentle warmth that reaches the core of the body, it is also extremely effective for promoting blood flow as a pre-sauna warm-up.

The main sauna room offers an open feel with a view of the Japanese garden in the outdoor area. Multiple large sauna stoves are installed, and the room is always filled with a powerful, piercing heat. With the auto löyly function operating at regular intervals, scorching steam rapidly fills the room, making you sweat all at once from every pore. Located at the back of a unique double-layer structure accessed through the lower-temperature sauna room in front, it delivers a quiet, immersive, and superb sauna experience.

A Finnish-style sauna in the men's bath where you can enjoy self löyly, a rare feature even within Kyoto Prefecture. The temperature is mild and gentle, and by pouring water on the stones yourself, you can generate high-quality steam and negative ions while comfortably adjusting the perceived temperature. It warms you gradually from deep within the body, making it ideal for those who do not like high-temperature saunas or who want to take their time and enjoy quiet meditation.

Kampo Herbal Salt Steam Sauna

An authentic women-only steam sauna that gently supports beauty and health. The moment you step inside, the rich aroma of carefully selected Kampo herbs softly tickles your nose. The room is filled with very gentle steam, and by applying the salt provided in the sauna to your body, you can gently remove impurities from your pores and emerge with amazingly smooth, beautiful skin.

A cold plunge bath with outstanding circulation, located in the outdoor area directly in front of the garden sauna. The well-depth tub is filled to the brim with thoroughly chilled water. It has a crisp, invigorating chill that instantly tightens a body heated to the limit by sauna or Sukkama, delivering a pleasant cooldown as if wrapped in clear water.
